MasterClass

Dear friends, on 5/21/15 I signed up for an online course called MasterClass. It is a course in novel writing, taught via video by best-selling author James Patterson. As you can imagine, I’m excited, and part of my first assignment is to share on social media my commitment to writing 500 words per day, and to ask friends to hold me accountable and if you should desire to further help me along this endeavor, to provide feedback as my project progresses.

For those of you who read my Friday Feature: “Let’s Talk Books”, I will be shifting its focus to sharing what I’ve written each week and asking for your feedback, criticism, and ideas to make the book better along the way.  It’s because of you, that I’ve decided to take this leap of faith and I hope you’ll join me.

Blessings, “Bethie”

Friday Feature: “Let’s Talk Books” — Some Random Thoughts

Hello Everyone ! Yes, I know this is much later than my usual posting time, but it’s still Friday in California, so technically I’m not really late, yet. What I have to share though may take awhile, maybe into Saturday morning, so I hope you’ll keep reading. First, for those of you who have read about who I am, and the health crisis I’ve been dealing with the past year plus, I want to let you know that I saw my doctor today and I’m hopeful this long odyssey is coming to an end and I can move on with my life as I once knew it over a year ago. Wouldn’t that be a great birthday present for me, and all those who have shared with me initmately on this journey?

One of my Facebook friends posted a link  to an article on my wall this evening about the positive health affects of writing. Maybe this is partly why my doctor was so encouraged about my progress today. Read on:

Which brings me to my next point. I embarked on a month long writing project — Camp NANOWRIMO, which stands for Camp National Novel Writing Month. Yes, it’s official, my book I mentioned in my blog introduction (back in December) has begun (1200 words so far, and my goal is 25000 by the month’s end). I don’t want to divulge too much except to say that it will be a series of short stories weaved together with a core group of characters and a central theme.

Now this is where you, my faithful followers come in. I need your input and advice on how I should proceed.

Do you read short stories?

Do you have a favorite?

A favorite character from a book you’ve read?

A favorite type of book you like to read? What makes it a favorite?

On the topic of my reading list….I finished Anita Diamant’s, Boston Girl. She is an author I enjoy reading and this book did not disappoint. I also started Susan Vreeland’s, Clara and Mr. Tiffany. So far, so good. And did I mention I have hundreds on my Kindle that I haven’t even started yet? I guess that’s for summer….

So until next time, stay well, enjoy the Spring weather; and know that I value your following my blog very much. Even if this post was a bit disjointed and disorganized. I’ll strive to do better next week.

Bethie
