Friday Feature: “Let’s Talk Books” — New Reads for Spring and Summer

Welcome to Friday Feature: “Let’s Talk Books! Yes, I’m really late getting this posted, but today life stepped in and derailed the day until now. BUT…. I’m here and it’s time to chat!!

Now that Spring has arrived, and Summer is just around the corner, what books are you looking forward to reading?

Do you have a special place you like to read?

Friday Feature: “Let’s Talk Books”

Welcome friends and followers of “Bethie’s Place”, and the weekly feature, “Let’s Talk Books”! 😀  This week’s topic for discussion is…. drumroll please…. “What Books Are On The Nightstand? The Kindle? The TBR (To Be Read List)?

For me, the books on the nightstand (at the moment) are (in no particular order):

Secrets She Left Behind by Diane Chamberlain

Leaving The World by Douglas Kennedy

Boston Girl by Anita Diamant

Where Do You Get Your Ideas? by Fred White

There are approximately 100 books on the Kindle (a mix of fiction and nonfiction), 15 from NetGallery.com (my newest best friend, lol) and a long list of TBR books.

Okay, you know what my reading list looks like, so let me know about yours…. “Let’s Talk Books”!!! 😀

In Search Of… Intrigued? Read on!!

In search of what? A new book to read? Always, but that’s not what this post is about, even though I have been reading many books about what I’m in search of. A missing piece of clothing? Nope. What I’m in search of is more valuable than an expensive house or car, or more valuable than the most priceless piece of art you can imagine.  What I’m in search of has taken me thus far to Ireland, Poland, Lithuania, Germany, and Holland. Can you venture a guess?  Let me know your guesses.  Until next time, stay tuned!

By now you must have guessed that what I’m in search of is my roots.  No, not the roots of my hair (although DNA is involved). I’m talking about searching from whence I came.  I have been bitten by the genealogy bug! At first, the bug bite didn’t bother me so much, as I had made some interesting discoveries rather quickly.  Then the bug just got annoying. Paths I followed lead no where or lead me to places and people that were not a part of my family’s tree.  Records are hard to wade through. By the way, I’m on this search via the Internet and relatives’ recollections.

Anyone out there on a similar search? I ask only because I’m a newbie to this adventure, so I’m seeking help finding the missing and obscure parts of my family’s tree.  By chance, do you live in Massachusetts, specifically Essex County? Could you be my legs, eyes, and ears to help me with my search? If so, please let me know. I’d hire a professional genealogist, and I’ve researched that as well, but the prices that I’ve been quoted are a small fortune, which is out of my current and future price range.

Friday Feature: “Let’s Talk Books” — Family Sagas (Dramas)

Hello friends! Yes, I know, you’re probably disappointed that the topic I picked for this week has nothing to do with Friday the 13th, but I think I’ve found a topic that we can all relate to at sometime in our lives — the family saga/drama. We have them in our homes (hopefully only occasionally), and yes, they’re long, complex, with lots of vivid characters and storylines to keep track of, but for me, they’re my “go-to” book of choice when I need to escape from my own troubles in my own life. I’m currently deeply engaged in Jeffrey Archer’s, “Mightier Than The Sword: The Clifton Chronicles.” As a starting off point, I’ve created two polls. Enjoy and “Let’s Talk Books”!

If a book title doesn’t come to mind right away, here’s a link I found to jog your memory and enhance the week’s topic.

Friday Feature: “Let’s Talk Books” — From Book To Motion Picture

Welcome To Friday Feature: “Let’s Talk Books”! It wasn’t until a couple hours ago, while watching my favorite movie “Airport” (1970), written by Alex Hailey, that I finally decided what this week’s topic would be. While researching and writing this post, I discovered a list of 322 movies that had their beginning as a a novel or nonfiction book.  Looking back at this past month’s Academy Awards, several Oscars were awarded to movies that came from books — Still Alice,  Theory of Everything,  and The Imitation Game, to name only three. Now it’s your turn…

Think of a book you’ve read that became a movie.

Were you anxious to see the movie?  Why/why not?

Did it follow the book?

If it didn’t, what was different?  Plot? Characters?

Did the difference(s) affect your enjoyment of the movie? How?

Note: I’ll be posting my replies later in the day, as well as a link to the list I mentioned….I was surprised at some of the titles I found and maybe you will be too! 😀

Here is the link to the list:
