Friday Feature: “Let’s Talk Books” — Favorite Love Story

On this Valentine’s Day weekend, for some, our thoughts turn to love and romance.  That being said, I’m curious to know what  is the title of your all-time favorite love story?  What makes/made it an “all-time favorite” for you?

Let’s talk love, romance, and all those things that make our heart skip a beat right off the printed page…. 😀

  1. My favorite all-time love story is Robert James Waller’s, Bridges of Madison County. The author writes with mature characters/readers in mind. The depth of love that these two characters share is second to none, in my opinion. If you’ve read it and seen the film, let’s talk about it. If you haven’t read it or seen the film, please consider renting the dvd or picking up the book and share it with someone you love.

    • Talk about love! Below is a letter written by Johnny Cash to his wife June. I was particularly moved by his words, “…#1 Earthly reason…” Obviously, he knew the scriptures. Read and enjoy the simplicity found when one speaks from the heart.

      Happy Birthday Princess,

We get old and get used to each other. We think alike. We read each others minds. We know what the other wants without asking. Sometimes we irritate each other a little bit. Maybe sometimes take each other for granted.

But once in awhile, like today, I meditate on it and realize how lucky I am to share my life with the greatest woman I ever met. You still fascinate and inspire me. You influence me for the better. You’re the object of my desire, the #1 Earthly reason for my existence. I love you very much.

      Happy Birthday Princess.
      John

    • I was going to say the exact same book. In fact I am re-reading it right now. I have been hesitant to see the film because I am afraid that they won’t get the book right. What is your opinion of the film in comparison to the book? Does it do a good job preserving the beauty and the majesty of the book?

      • Hi Sounja — I don’t want to spoil it for you, so I’ll say it very simply, rent the dvd and watch it, and then run to your nearest dvd store or any of the online dvd purchasing locations, and buy it…. Happy Valentine’s Day! ❤ "Bethie"

  2. I want to show the Love, Joy and Peace that comes when I read. It is my fruit with a sweet taste for my self, soul and spirit.

  3. Hands down, “the Book Thief.” The main plot had everything to do with love, but not necessarily romantic love. More intimacy, commitment with people, words, and being alive (not just surviving). Zusak expressed love, in every way true, everlasting love could be expressed. And I’m thankful for every emotion and fresh perspective he evoked in me.

    • Odd that you would mention the Book Thief. I loved that book as well, and you’re right, its main plot was all about love. Must re-read it soon. Did you see the movie adaptation of the book? What did you think? Let’s chat about it. Have a blessed day, and thank you for visiting my blog! 😀

      • 🙂 Happy to hear you loved it and want to talk about it. I did see the movie adaptation. While I would’ve liked if certain things were incorporated into the movie, to align it closer to the book, I enjoyed the interpretation. There were strong performances overall. And I still felt and appreciated the heart of the story. Did you see it? What did you think?
